Independents no more

I have many friends that ‘claim to be independent’. They are not and never have been.
They take no position that is neutral — most are liberal Democrats.
They take no position that could be in contradiction.
They don’t support candidates from both parties — only Democrats.
They profess independence, but are really party hacks — supporting only Democrats.
They are involved as independents, but really support only one party.
It is sad that many of these friends are not honest with themselves.
To me, a true independent is someone like me.
I support Roe v. Wade.
I support Gun control as well as gun ownership.
I gave equally to both Republican and Democratic candidates (2006: $2,500 to D and $2,000 to R)
I vote for both Republican and Democratic candidates (who is the best for the community & country)
I ran for office as an independent (lost, but my wife is running this year as an Independent)
I am fiscally conservative but socially liberal.
I am anti-war but appreciate and and love that the military is there to do the job that many would not.
I believe in America first and the rest of the world (including the French) can worry about themselves.
America is the shining example of what can be achieved. It is not perfect, but there is no other place I would trade for it.
